An introduction to Energy Healing treatments

In the world of holistic health and wellbeing lies the secret healing modality known to the all the great healers and gurus of our time. This secret is energy healing. An ancient healing technique practiced by our ancestors over thousands of years ago. The technique has been catapulted back into the mainstream with various forms of this treatment being practiced and taught around the western world.

Energy healing is based on the belief that the body has an energy field that can be manipulated and altered to support the body in healing and preventing illnesses all together. The non-invasive treatment requires a qualified practitioner to channel energy through their hands- which is believed to clear blocked energy in the clients body, leading to physical ailments and pains completely disappearing.

If this sounds like something you would be up for trying, luckily there are many treatments on the market, so here is a quick run down of the most popular energy healing treatments in the UK and abroad.

Reiki

Out of all the energy healing treatments in the Western world, Reiki by far is one of the most popular healing treatments. Studies even support Reiki being better than a placebo and having serious potential to be used as a complementary therapy. In places such a Australia, Reiki is even being used to manage chronic diseases, yet, many people still have no idea what Reiki is.

Reiki is an energy healing practice that originated in Japan. It is based on the idea that universal energy channeled through a practitioner can be used to heal physical, mental and emotional ailments. Reiki practitioners use a non-invasive energy exchange through their hands to balance the body and promote relaxation to the client. Sometimes they may use tools such as crystals, pendulums or their own intuitive abilities to support the healing treatment.

The man being dubbed as the father of Reiki is Mr. Mikao Usui. A spiritual teacher of the 19th century who has been said to have traveled around the Western world as part of a continued study of theology. Although there is no record of him attending a university, his studies included medicine, Buddhism, Christianity, psychology and Taoism. He died in 1926, leaving behind his teachings with an inscription on his memorial stone saying he taught Reiki to over 2,000 people.

Chakra balancing

Chakra balancing is a holistic type of energy healing that works on balancing the seven major chakras in the body. The qualified practitioner works on unblocking specific areas of your chakra system through restorative measures and practices. Chakra balancing techniques include yoga, meditation, breathwork, sound healing and crystal healing.

The practice has evolved from the ancient Vedic and Tantric traditions of India where chakras are believed to be energy pathways that connect the physical body to the spiritual realm. In Vedic and Tantric philosophy, when these energy pathways become blocked or imbalanced, it can lead to physical, mental and spiritual issues. The practice of Chakra balancing has been used for thousands of years in India and has spread to other parts of the world. With that has been the development of new practices to incorporate with it.

Crystal Healing

Crystal healing is a form of alternative medicine using crystals or gem stones to heal the mind and body. It is based on the belief that the crystal contains universal energy, that can be used to promote healing and balance the body. The crystals are also used to remove all the negative energy from the body.

The practice dates back to ancient Egypt, India, China and Japan where crystals were used for their healing properties. In the middle ages, healers used crystals to treat physical, spiritual and emotional ailments. Although there are no scientific studies to support the efficacy of this treatment, crystals have risen in popularity in recent years. Used as an alternative form of healing with many practitioners offering specialist treatments.

Qingong

Qingong is an ancient Chinese practice that combines physical postures, breathing exercises and meditation. It is a form of traditional medicine in China dating back thousands of years.

Passed down from generation to generation, the history is hard to trace, but the earliest written records of qigong practices were in the 4th century BCE, when a book called Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine was written. This book detailed the relationship between the beliefs and practices of the technique.

It has been used in Asia for centuries to treat physical and mental ailments and it is most popular today in China and Japan whilst increasingly growing popularity in the west. If you want to learn more about Chinese healing modalities, check the links below.

Sekhem

Lastly, but not least, we have Sekhem. Sekhem is an energy healing treatment from ancient Egypt. It is a powerful healing technique that works by using the energy of the sun, moon and stars to clear energy blockages from the body. The practice is said to be the foundation to which many energy healing modalities came from.

Sekhem is believed to be the oldest form of energetic healing in the world used by the ancient Egyptians themselves. It has a higher vibrational level than Reiki. In mythology, Sekhem energy is associated with the Egyptian Goddess Sekhmet. She is linked with the star Sirus, the brightest star in the sky. This Goddess is the bringer of destruction and Healing, Patroness of War and Healing sciences who destroys that which is no longer serving us so we can build on a new foundation.
