This period is ideal for travel, adventure, and exploring new horizons. However, travelling can also bring challenges like jet lag, travel delays and fluctuating energy levels. Incorporating Reiki into your summer travels can help maintain balance, enhance your experiences, and ensure a mindful reset.

What is Reiki?

Reiki, pronounced ray-key, is a profound and transformative Japanese holistic healing therapy and spiritual pathway. The term Reiki translates to universal or spiritual energy, which is the life force energy within us all and permeates the entire universe. Reiki supports the body’s natural ability to heal, promoting a sense of wholeness in the present moment. Reiki offers a comprehensive approach to well-being, helping to balance and align the mind, body, and spirit. The system of Reiki, which I practice and teach today, was founded by Mikao Usui. 

The Vibrancy of Summer

Summer is synonymous with brightness and colour. The longer days and increased sunlight help to uplift our spirits and encourage us to be more active. Nature flourishes, showcasing a spectrum of vibrant colours – from the lush greens of trees and grass to the vivid blooms of flowers. These colours are not just visually appealing but also play a significant role in energy healing.

Each colour resonates with different energy frequencies, affecting our mood and health. For instance, green is associated with the heart chakra and promotes healing and balance. Blue, linked to the throat chakra, enhances communication and tranquillity. By immersing yourself in the colours of summer, you may naturally boost your energy levels and well-being.

Reiki for Travellers

Incorporating Reiki into your travel routine can provide numerous benefits:

Pre-Travel Preparation

Before embarking on your journey, schedule a Reiki session to align and strengthen your energy field. This preparation can make your body more resilient to the stresses of travel and enhance your overall travel experience.

In-Flight Reiki Practices

During your flight, practice Reiki self-healing techniques to maintain energy balance. Placing your hands on key energy centres (chakras) can help you stay grounded and relaxed. Visualising a protective energy shield around you can prevent unwanted energies and promote calmness.

Overcoming Jet Lag with Reiki

Jet lag occurs when your body’s internal clock is out of sync with the local time zone, leading to symptoms like fatigue, insomnia, and irritability. Reiki offers an effective way to help combat these effects by realigning your energy with the new environment. Upon arrival, practice Reiki self-healing or seek a local Reiki practitioner to help adjust your energy.

Reiki Self-Healing Techniques

If you are new to Reiki or do not have access to a practitioner during your travels, you can still benefit from simple self-healing techniques, here are three of my go to practices:

Gassho Meditation

Sit comfortably and place your hands in a prayer position. Focus on your breath and the sensation of energy flowing between your palms. This meditation helps centre your mind and align your energy.

Chakra Balancing

Place your hands on each of your main chakras, starting from the crown of your head and moving down to the base of your spine. Spend a few minutes on each chakra, visualising a vibrant, healing light entering and balancing each energy centre.

Reiki Shower

Imagine standing under a waterfall of pure, healing energy. Visualise this energy washing away any stress, fatigue, or negativity, leaving you feeling refreshed and energised.

Embracing a Mindful Reset

Summer travel provides the perfect opportunity for a mindful reset. By consciously incorporating Reiki into your travels, you can enhance your overall experience and return home feeling rejuvenated. Take time to connect with nature, embrace the vibrant colours around you, and practice Reiki, life force energy, regularly.
