InterContinental Porto Introduces new science-backed jet lag app

For many American travellers, the first day in Europe is often spent trying to push through exhaustion. Early arrivals, overnight flights and packed itineraries have long made jet lag feel like an unavoidable part of long haul travel, particularly on shorter luxury city breaks where every day counts.

At InterContinental Porto – Palácio das Cardosas, jet lag is being combatted through Timeshifter, a science backed jet lag app that is available to guests staying at InterContinental Hotels & Resorts worldwide.

Developed alongside leading sleep and circadian neuroscience experts, Timeshifter provides personalised recommendations designed to help guests adapt quicker to new time zones. Using details such as flight schedules, sleep preferences, chronotypes, and itinerary plans, the app creates tailored guidance around sleep timing, light exposure and caffeine intake, helping guests arrive feeling more rested and better adjusted to their destination.

Access to the app is complemented by a new restorative guest rooms concept, designed in partnership with neuroscience-based designer Isabelle Sjövall, and a menu of nutritionally rich dishes to combat energy slumps and boost vitality, reenergising guests whilst providing a natural solution to tackling fatigue.

For Porto, the introduction feels especially well suited. The city has become one of Europe’s most sought-after destinations for American travellers in recent years, drawn to its historic architecture, acclaimed food scene and riverside atmosphere. Porto encourages a more relaxed rhythm of travel, something InterContinental Porto reflects throughout the guest experience.

Set within an 18th-century palace overlooking Praça da Liberdade, the hotel combines the grandeur of the original building with softer contemporary interiors designed to feel calm, comfortable and restorative. The 113 rooms and suites offer a sense of retreat from the city outside, while Astória Restaurant and Cardosas Bar encourage guests to settle into Porto at a gentler pace, whether over long lunches, evening cocktails or quiet mornings overlooking the square.

At InterContinental Porto, luxury is found not only in the setting itself, but in helping guests feel at ease from the moment they arrive.
