The ambient spa music, the sound of the waterfalls, the faux jungle immersion and the secret herbal garden along a path of small massage huts; for me, the experience of The Four Seasons Nevis began when I entered the spa. After I checked in, I walked into the women’s lounge filled with plush cushioned loungers, refreshments, and a relaxing water fountain feature that set the tone for relaxation.
Here, you can relax with snacks, grapefruit-infused water, and herbal tea before or after your treatment. I poured myself a lemongrass tea before walking into my changing room to change into my gown and slippers— also courtesy of the spa. From the changing rooms, there was an intimate sauna and shower room.
The Four Seasons Spa, Nevis, is equipped with a sauna, cold plunges, a hot volcanic stone Jacuzzi, and private treatment huts where guests can enjoy an exciting list of bespoke treatments.
During my conversation with Spa and Wellness Director Karen McFarlen, she explained her approach to designing the spa menu. She emphasized the importance of incorporating the wellness elements of Nevis into the services offered to guests. Karen highlighted the use of herbs and organic, natural products in their treatments. She also mentioned the team’s involvement in infusing their own essential oils.
McFarlen said, “We use a lot of herbs. Our treatments are really geared towards organic or natural products that we incorporate in our services”.
During my treatment, I got the chance to experience these bespoke oils first hand, and I was pleasantly surprised by how potent the intense aromas of ginger and lavender could be on my body. With every stroke, I sunk deeper into the massage chair and instantly felt like I was in a different world; thanks to the help of carefully heated hot stones, my mind wandered far, far away.
After my treatment, I relaxed by the pool area, listening to the soothing sounds of the heated waterfall. Heated pool therapy can help relax your muscles and relieve tension and aches. It was exactly what I needed to deepen my relaxation. I took a short dip before drying off and walking across the short path to the cold plunge to try a little contrast bathing. This involves taking baths in hot and cold water which improves your circulation and can help treat inflammation of soft tissues, muscle spasms, painful limbs and stiff joints.
It took me maybe ten attempts too many to finally dip my whole body into the cold plunge. Overlooking the beautiful view of Nevis Peak, the freezing temperature contrasted with the hot air, and the heated pool I came from shocked my body and made me alert, but in a sense, this is what it’s supposed to do. After taking a few deep breaths, I was able to settle in for around five minutes before jumping out and running back for a round two.
The spa menu offers an exciting list of treatments, which include massages under the stars, full body exfoliants with blends of citrus and shea butter, cleansing rituals and body treatments using soothing plant-based oils and blends using aloe vera and moringa.
Suppose you need more than this to send you running to book your next retreat away. Why not align your chakras with a soothing energy healing treatment from their in-house reiki healer, yoga teacher and wellness manager, Sidra Samuels?
I caught up with Sidra during one of my visits to find out exactly what the spa has to offer. Samuels said, “Here at the Four Seasons Nevis, we offer an array of classes, including yoga, Pilates, and sound therapy. We also have a new trampoline class designed to help you connect with your inner child.”
Sidra believes in the power of alternative therapy, which compliments the list of hands-on therapies on the menu. After speaking with her, it seems like the spa isn’t afraid to explore new and exciting ways to create signature guest experiences. For example, Sidra mentioned to me that were trying out a new floating sound bath experience where guests will lie on floats in the hotel pool listening to the soothing sounds of crystal bowls. The treatment sounded dreamy, unique, and an interesting way of exploring sound therapy.
